My wife used to be a reading teacher for 1st and 2nd graders in Hawaii.
She would tell me all sorts of stories, and this one is one of my favorites.

The assignment was to make a sentence out of a word, i.e. if the word was ‘tree’, a kid would maybe say ‘that tree is tall.’

The word for that day was ‘across.’

One of her students wrote “Jesus died on a cross.”

It tickled Rahel so much that she gave the girl a passing grade for the assignment.
